This year's fire season has brought about unprecedented destruction as wildfires have spread across every Australian state, burning up nearly 15 million acres of bush as of January 2020.
But the devastation witnessed in the state of New South Wales is nearly unfathomable with 8.8 million acres been lost, over 1,500 homes destroyed or damaged and 24 people have been killed. NSW is home to some of the most iconic of Australia's wildlife- koalas, wombats and kangaroos, just to name a few- and their habitat is rapidly declining.
Restoring these areas also means putting wildlife habitats back in tact and creating healthy ecosystems capable of being resilient to climate change, which is critical as these areas are considered to be biodiversity hotspots.
Right now, the One Tree Planted team are talking with local partners about the logistics for environmental recovery. From identifying specific areas to reforest, how nurseries will need to expand to accommodate the need for seedlings, to conducting operations in wildlife friendly ways. Once the ash clears, assessments will need to be made and then the real work of reforestation will commence, with plenty of hands in the dirt.
Talowood has planted over 150 trees to this cause, with our dedication to plant one tree for every purchase.
You can also plant as many trees as you desire directly through our website or at our donation page at https://www.classy.org/team/274019
That's why we need your help.
Together as a nation, please help reforest Australia!
